A week has passed since we got here. Thankfully, Maggie and I are over the jet lag. I have emptied our luggages and organized our stuff in the closet. I think I am ready to be a housewife/stay-at-home mommy again.

Maggie’s Dad has “forced” me to drive. Although this town is not new to me, I have yet to regain the confidence. So whenever he tells me that I need to drive to this and that, I would find myself repeatedly checking and studying googlemaps no matter how easy the route looks. Sigh.

Maggie loves it here and tells her Lola back in the Philippines that she doesn’t want to go back there. She also added that she would only if her Daddy comes with us.

Dear Maggie,

We’re here… back in the arms of your Daddy! Wishes do come true!

The past days though were horrible because of jet lag. We’d find ourselves snacking on crackers and milk, watching Wonder Pets and Barney and Dora, and playing all the games in your iPad in the wee hours of the morning. And then, we’d sleep from 10AM to 5PM! I don’t like it. You and I have been occasionally cranky, and your poor Dad patiently deals with that.

I am glad that despite the distance for almost two years, you’ve remained close to your Dad. He never became a stranger to you. When you first saw him at the airport, you ran to him and hugged him real tight. That really melted my heart (and his, too). You are a sweetie, Maggie!

It’s only 9AM here, yet it’s very hot! So after breakfast, Maggie hopped in her inflatable pool and is currently enjoying an outdoor bubble bath.

It tickles me to see her giggling, singing, making stories in the water, scooping bubbles in her tiny hands, and simply living in her now.

It is also exciting to see her putting her imagination to work. When she accidentally took the handle off her pail, she put it on her head. I exclaimed, “Oh, you have a new headband!” She replied, “No, Mama. It’s a headphones!”

Counting the Days

Today I got an email from the US Embassy that my visa is on its way to me. I have told family and close friends that Maggie and I are ready to go, and that we cannot wait to be with her Daddy.

On the other hand, I just can’t help but feel sad about leaving. There’s a lot to miss (again). I’ve said too many goodbyes in this lifetime, but why does it still crush my heart every single time? I should’ve been very good at it by now.

I have always felt blessed to have wonderful parents-in-law. Long before Maggie’s Dad and I got married, they had been very nice to me and treated me like family already.

We spent the afternoon at their place, and Maggie was very happy to paint some Easter eggs with them. It was such a lovely sight to behold!

Maggie’s Dad just bought our tickets. See you in May, U.S.A.! All of us are beyond happy for this much-awaited reunion.

Some people think the decision is unwise (even stupid) because the ice cream store is doing well and the tea cart is earning a lot. But I believe that the Universe sends me where I need to be, and it’s not just about the money. I am fully aware that the challenges won’t stop or would get any easier after I leave the businesses behind. I know I will miss the busy life here, but it wouldn’t be boring either if I just stay at home and be a full-time Mommy to Maggie again (yay!).

Dear Maggie,

You just completed your first school year. Congratulations! I am proud of you and happy for everything you did and learned. You made friends, mastered your letter sounds and 123s, and practiced independence especially in taking care of your personal needs. You excitedly danced and sang on stage during the MusicFest, Christmas Program and recently, at the Culminating Activity where you performed as a Humming Fish for The Lorax.

Last Sunday, Maggie and I went to the beach with two of my good friends. The trip going there took about 3 hours! I made wrong turns twice! It was all worth it though. We had the whole island to ourselves. We basked in the sun, and reveled in the serenity. Maggie had a blast making sandcastles!

Another friend and I are opening a tea cart in the mall on Friday. So you can imagine the stress that goes with a new business. That day trip was just necessary for me to recharge.

To the universe, to God, I am thankful for blessing me with all that I have right now, especially for my little Maggie and her Dad for whom I do everything.

I was quite surprised when Maggie shared with her Dad the following news in detail:

1. We have a new helper.

2. She went to Church and a man put dirt on her forehead (on Ash Wednesday), but it disappeared when she took a bath.

3. She has a cough so she won’t drink anything cold at the moment. She’s having warm milk.

Maggie also asked, “Do you have a sun there? ‘Cos we also have sun here! See?” She turned the camera towards the window. Then she added, “You sleep now? Okay! I am awake here ‘cos it’s morning! Good night, Dad! I love you!”

When it was my turn to talk to my husband, I had nothing much to say because Maggie told him practically everything! :)
